Position Summary

Ifakara Health Institute is seeking a qualified and experienced Pharmacist responsible for coordinating and providing expertise in clinical investigational drug trials. The Pharmacist will also handle education responsibilities, accurate dispensing of medication, administrative duties, supervision, and overall responsibility for pharmacy operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) requirements.
  • Conduct and maintain drug/vaccine procedures for investigational medicinal product accountability.
  • Ensure proper drug storage and dispensing according to protocol instructions.
  • Participate in the preparation and formulation of drug vaccines.
  • Ensure proper handling of drug vaccines by other staff.
  • Monitor and report study drug/vaccine supplies to the Project Leader.
  • Ensure compliance with drugs and vaccine importation procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with study drug/vaccine disposal procedures.
  • Initiate export and import permit applications and follow-up to ensure availability of study drug/vaccine for clinical trials.
  • Adhere to and maintain protocol standards during study implementation.

Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy.
  • Working experience in Bioequivalence of Drugs and Assessment of Bioequivalence Data.
  • Three (3) years of demonstrated experience as a pharmacist with a valid license, working with regulatory authorities and/or a research institute.

Skills and Competencies

  • Experience with formulation of medicines and vaccine procedures.
  • Familiarity with dispensing procedures.
  • Knowledge of cold chain management processes.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong team player.
  • Hardworking individual.
  • Preparation of submission packages for regulatory authorities (e.g., extension of shelf life and drug destruction approval, drug import and export permits).
