Job Details

The International Organization for Migration is seeking a Medical Assistant for the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) in Kasulu/Makere, Tanzania. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer and the Senior Medical Assistant.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant will be responsible for providing information related to Health Assessment Programs and Applicant processing to migrants. They may work in either of the two potential subunits within the MHAC: the call Centre or the reception and data processing unit. Some of the duties include:

Call Centre Overall Duties

  • Provide health assessment information to migrants via phone.
  • Register migrants in the IOM database, schedule and confirm medical appointments, and handle communication for medical staff and beneficiaries.
  • Prepare master lists of migrants scheduled for health assessment processing and share them with relevant service providers.
  • Maintain daily statistics related to health assessments and contribute to customer satisfaction evaluation management.

Reception and Data Entry Overall Duties

  • Process data for the Migration Health Assessment Centre, including explaining the registration process to applicants, entering applicants’ bio-data, taking photos using a webcam, etc.
  • Receive completed medical examination forms and documents from Country Offices or Panel Physicians, update the database, and forward them for quality check.
  • Prepare, sort, and package medical files and documents during mobile migration health assessment missions.
  • Transmit completed medical forms and documents to various partners via electronic means or courier services.
  • File incoming/outgoing letters, reports, memoranda, emails, faxes, and other IOM medical documents.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • University Degree with at least two years of relevant working experience, or
  • Secondary School Diploma with at least four years of relevant working experience.
  • Certificate in IT/Data entry is an advantage.

Experience:

  • Experience in computer data entry, elaboration, and analysis or in a call center, preferably in a medical institution.
  • Typing speed of at least 60 words per minute.
  • High computer literacy in Windows and MS Office.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, secretarial and archival experience is a plus.
  • Previous working experience with NGOs or international organizations is an added advantage.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili is required.
  • Working knowledge of French and Spanish is desirable.
